Ejaculation Disorders in Male

One of the most common sexual problem men battle with is ejaculation disorders. It is also a common cause of male infertility.

Ejaculation disorder is in three forms and this article explores the ejaculation disorders that men experience.

To start with;

What is Ejaculation?

Ejaculation is discharge of semen from the penis as a result of orgasm. Friction on the glans penis and other stimuli stimulate the nervous system, resulting in ejaculation.

What leads to Ejaculation?

The following steps leads to ejaculation in men.

  1. Arousal: It occurs when a man’s sexual interest stirs up by someone or something
  2. Erection: Upon arousal, the brain sends a signal down the spinal cord to the sex organs, causing an erection. The penis becomes erect when blood fills the spongy tissue inside its shaft. The veins that drain blood in the penis close, allowing more blood to remain inside. Therefore, resulting in a hard erection.
  3. Peak: During this period, the male body prepares for orgasm, which can last from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. Involuntary body motions, particularly in the pelvis, begin to take over as muscle tension grows.
  4. Emission: At this point, orgasm is about to occur. The man reaches “the point of no return” as semen deposits near the top of the urethra, ready for ejaculation.
  5. Ejaculation: It is accompanied by a sequence of rapid-fire contractions of the penile muscles and the anus base. Pelvic thrusting might sometimes happen involuntarily. The man’s brain receives pleasure signals from the neurons that cause muscle contractions.

The entire process of ejaculation is controlled by nerve signals received from the penis; once initiated, ejaculation is a reflex reaction that cannot be stopped consciously.

Types of Ejaculation Disorders

The following disorders associates with ejaculation;

Premature Ejaculation(PE)

It is a sexual dysfunction that occurs when a man ejaculates before or too soon after penetration.

Although there is no specific time for a man to ejaculate during sex, if you ejaculate and lose your erection too soon, you and your partner may feel deprived.

PE occurs in about 30 percent of men and is the most common type of ejaculatory dysfunction. Most cases of PE are treatable.

A man’s premature ejaculation can be caused by a variety of psychological and physical causes. Such as;

Premature ejaculation occurs from time to time and is not a cause for concern. However, if you’re finding that about half of your sex attempts result in premature ejaculation, you should seek medical treatment.

Delayed Ejaculation(DE)

Delayed ejaculation, also known as impaired ejaculation, is a condition in which men require a long time to reach sexual climax and release semen from the penis(ejaculate) after sexual stimulation.

Most of the time, men have an erection and stimulated sexually, but they are unable to ejaculate.

Delayed ejaculation is said to occur if;

  • you have a 30 to 60 minute delay before ejaculation
  • you can’t ejaculate at least half the time you have sex

Delay ejaculation, like premature ejaculation, can be caused by psychological and physical reasons. Early sexual trauma, strict parenting, relationship issues, stress, or depression are all possible psychological causes of delayed ejaculation.

It can also be caused by a variety of factors, including drugs, heavy alcohol use, diuretics, high blood pressure, and sexual performance anxiety. Hormonal abnormalities and low self-esteem can also contribute to DE.

DE might occur suddenly when the male has had no problems in the past, or it can occur regularly.

It might happen in any sexual situation or in only a few. When masturbating, for instance, you may be able to ejaculate properly, but not during sex. There is generally a psychological reason for ejaculation only occurring in certain situation.

Retrograde Ejaculation(RE)

It is a rarer type of ejaculation problem known as dry ejaculation. This occurs when some or all of the ejaculate goes backwards (retrograde).

Retrograde ejaculation occurs when semen enters the bladder instead of releasing through the penis during orgasm. It eventually comes out during urination.

The most common symptoms of retrograde ejaculation are:

  • ejaculation produces no or only little amount of sperm
  • cloudy urine when you first go to the toilet after having sex (because of the semen in it).

Damage to the nerves or muscles that surround the bladder’s neck causes retrograde ejaculation. That is, damage to the surrounding muscles or nerves can prevent the bladder neck from closing, causing semen to travel into the bladder instead of up through the urethra.

The most common cause of retrograde ejaculation is prostate gland or bladder surgery. Diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and a class of drugs known as alpha-blockers commonly used to treat high blood pressure, are among the other causes.

Men with retrograde ejaculation still get the feeling of orgasm, and the condition is not harmful to their health. It can, however, lead to infertility which affects the ability to father a child.

Conclusively, some men have lost their homes, partners, self confidence and hope due to these ejaculation disorders. But, it doesn’t have to be you!
